On November 13th, 2012, the dream of Godsend Non-Medical Home Care, LLC. was launched. This company was formed out of the passion Colleen Burns has to keep people living comfortably in their own homes. Her brother, John Hilbert, was pivotal in getting the company off the ground with his business sense and encouraging nature. They both had personally experienced the difficulties of trying to be both a caregiver and family member. The challenges can be overwhelming and that is why it has become their life mission to offer quality, trusted service from someone who has first-hand experience. It is so important to offer families peace of mind and that is what Godsend provides.
Godsend Non-Medical Home Care separates itself from the competition because we are family owned and operated. This started as a family business and is still a family business today with Colleen’s husband Ron, son Trey, and many nieces and nephews who believed in their mission and offered outstanding care for their clients. Compassion, quality care, peace of mind, and client services are our top priorities.
Through their experiences with their clients, Colleen developed a passion to work with people living with dementia (PLwD) or brain change. She began to learn as much as she could about these amazing people and how to communicate and care for them. She says, “They are the biggest underdogs, and no one gives them a chance,” much like her favorite team the Cleveland Browns. They can learn, rebound, and live a productive life.” It was in 2020, when she became an independent, certified trainer with the Positive Approach to Care™ with Teepa Snow. This program taught her that you first must make a connection with someone before you help them in anyway. She trains her staff to support their clients and not to do to them but do with them. This approach has made her successful in training other companies and families on a better way to support PLwD so they can be successful each day.
Godsend @ Home was started in March of 2021. They opened the family care home in Taylor Mill, KY for 3 residents to provide an alternate living option. This is a new concept to the NKY area that provides the same care as in a facility, but we provide TRUE person-centered care, a smaller environment with a customized care plan for each resident. Our focus is to be collaboration, inclusion, and purpose for the residents, while giving families peace of mind. This includes treating them first as a person, supporting them in daily activities of living, encouraging independence, and socialization in a family setting. We are changing the world, one person at a time. Our philosophy is that families deserve a better choice for their loved ones living with brain change.
