Dementia Education and Training
Colleen Burns is the founder of Godsend and has made it her passion to teach people how to work with people living with brain change or dementia. She is an independent, certified trainer in the Positive Approach to Care® (PAC). “Positive Approach to Care® enhances life and relationships of those living with brain change by fostering an inclusive global community.” This approach starts with a connection with the person living with brain change and provides support for that person to be successful throughout their day. We do things with them and not to them. We use the hand-under-hand® technique to support them when they are eating, brushing their teeth, going to the bathroom, and other daily activities of living. We work with people living with brain change to empower them to use what they have left to complete daily tasks. We do not limit their abilities, nor do we underestimate them. There’s a lot of life to live after diagnosis.
She has given seminars and private classes to families and professionals to learn PAC skills, understand brain change, and implement it into their everyday life. She also works on specific issues that may come up during the journey and comes up with ways to approach those issues without making the person living with brain change or the caregiver frustrated.
